Happiness for Daily Life

Gongju City, South Korea

Happiness for Daily Life transformed a semi–derelict former town hall into a café and meeting space. The project commissioned 4 contemporary British designers to work with professors and students at the Korean National University of Traditional Crafts, to produce work drawing on traditional techniques and crafts of Korea. The collaboration between contemporary design thinking and traditional craft techniques suggests a model for the integration of tradition within rapid change. The project was part of a British Council programme addressing the potential of creative practice to contribute to the regeneration of the public realm.

Designers: Michael Marriott, Linda Brothwell, Antony Burrill, Fabien Cappello.
