Happiness for Daily Life Cafe

Design and build of temporary cafe and artist residency programme

Happiness for Daily Life

Happiness for Daily Life transformed a semi–derelict former town hall in Gongju city into a fully functioning café and meeting space. The collaboration between contemporary design thinking and traditional craft techniques suggests a model for the integration of tradition within rapid change. Leading British designers were commissioned to work with professors and students at the Korean National University of Traditional Crafts to create the interior design, graphics, furniture and tableware. Produced through a British Council programme addressing the potential of creative practice to contribute to the regeneration of the public realm. Concept by Clare Cumberlidge & Co and co-curated with the British Council, with lead designer Michael Marriott and Linda Brothwell, Antony Burrill, and Fabien Cappello.
