Concept and direction of a programme which demonstrated a new approach to culturally-led regeneration, showcasing the unique qualities of a region and raising its profile through exhibitions, events and public programmes. The project changed perceptions of the region and was central to new government policies. The methodology involved the participation of leading international practitioners across disciplines. Intensive charettes were facilitated and involved tours, residents, experts and the client group. Opinion formers were engaged in large scale public programmes through profile raising events. Outputs included principles informing the master plan for the region, preliminary briefs for social and environmental regeneration and a series of phased quick-win projects.
